Using Setyourworth.com

I'm on Linkedin, is Setyourworth.com similar?

No, far from it. The most significant difference is anonymity and how we treat and process employers and employees' information. This is not a social networking or company-to-company sales platform.

There is only one way to log-in, and that is with you in control, with absolute privacy.

There are no jobs advertised on our platform, but this is where companies find the right people they want to employ.

Think of Setyourworth.com as an anonymous marketplace of people, both employed and unemployed, looking (or not) to better themselves and their careers. We have reinvented recruitment for you.

You will not find any sweeping terms regarding the use of your data in our Terms and Conditions. Your data is yours and how we use it is entirely at your discretion. To reiterate, nothing of yours is ours.

I'm happy in my role, why would I join?

That is excellent news, and hopefully, you are well rewarded too. However, Setyourworth.com is not about pulling people away from a job they love. Instead, our platform simply keeps them aware of what could be on the horizon now, and in the future.

I'm unemployed, does this website cater for me?

Definitely, you are in the right place. This is where your next employer will find you! The only difference between being employed or unemployed is the status of your profile.

Do not take your unemployment as a barrier to achieving your ideal salary expectations. Like any other member, you deserve to be paid your true worth.

Can I embellish my profile, just a little?

Our profiles are designed around a very factual format, so as tempting as it may be to enhance your experience or knowledge, we would strongly urge you not to. Honesty is always the best policy.

Having a factual profile will ensure you are paid what you are worth. There is nothing to stop you from completing your profile's enhanced sections, which will allow you to convey other details that support your salary expectation.

You can also use the learning section to communicate the ongoing training or experience you are gaining while carrying out your current role.

Unlike a CV or resume, we make updating your profile easy and logical.

What is this website and how does it work?

Put simply, it’s an employment game changer! Over the past 30 years, pay has not kept pace with the cost of living and inflation. As such, millions of people have been limited to a salary, not reflective of their capabilities and out of sync with the cost of living.

Setyourworth.com is an anonymous ‘people marketplace’ where companies search and offer our candidates employment at a salary set by them.

In your secure and anonymous profile, you state the salary you expect. If you meet the skills and experience the enquiring company is looking for, they will contact you (via our platform) confirming they have agreed to your salary expectations, but not before your consent is given. Your anonymity is paramount.

How will a company contact me?

Companies who find candidates on our platform are provided with a shortlist of anonymous profiles that perfectly meet their specific chosen criteria. No personal data is shown.

To start engaging with you, the enquiring company must first seek your consent. This is facilitated via our platform, keeping identities confidential. Our platform will provide you with the following information:

  • An acknowledgement of the member's salary expectation and the company's willingness to meet it

  • Company name & website

  • A brief description of the role

  • Contact name, number and email

With the above information, you can decide whether they wish to take the opportunity further. Never has recruitment and employment been so geared towards the aspirations, financial and mental well-being of employees. This is ground-breaking and will help people back toward a standard of living and financial status appropriate to their skillset and experience.

I don’t need a CV or resume, really?

In our view, CVs and resumes are a waste of time and are quickly out of date. Reading through them takes up a ridiculous amount of management hours to work out what is fiction and fact.

The secure profile you create here will not ask for the names of the companies you have worked at, nor the school, college, or university you attended.

What is important is what you know and what industries and sectors have you worked in?

How much experience do you have? What are your key strengths? What software systems are you familiar with, what are your likes and dislikes, the sort of people you prefer working with, what motivates you, the type of manager who gets the most from you, what dreams and aspirations do you have etc.

Not wanting to give too much away, but with information like this, our technology creates incredible matches for would-be employers and takes the guesswork away from managers who may not have a great deal of interviewing experience.

Hiring the wrong person in the right team can have catastrophic effects on productivity and profitability, costing companies money and time. A bad hire is bad business.

What if I join after a company has already searched for my skill set or experience?

So, you missed the dangled carrot, do not fret. When an enquiring company searches for their perfect hire, the system will naturally provide a shortlist of candidates that are currently in the system. The good news is the search can remain 'live' in our system if the company chooses to, meaning it is continually looking for the enquiring company’s specific needs. If your profile matches those criteria, we will immediately provide the company with an updated shortlist.

What is a video introduction?

*Note: This feature will be available following future updates and introduced after salary levels have been agreed.

The optional video introduction provides you with a way to say 'Hi' and to convey your personality to your prospective new employer, showing you as a person instead of what you can do. Remember, people buy people.

Not a big fan of a video? Are you a little shy? Not sure what to say? Do not worry; we will provide you with some coaching and an example to ensure you look great and say the right thing. The important thing is to be yourself. Let your personality shine through.

Smartphones now have excellent cameras, and if, like us, you've got used to video calls due to lockdown, you're probably an expert by now.

Remember, a video introduction is an option, not a necessity.

How long does it take before I am matched? Am I guaranteed to get a job offer?

There is no set answer to this. It could be a day, a week, a month, or even a year. There are so many variables, including how complete your profile is and how specific the employer search is. Factor in your geographic selections, i.e. where you want to work and how far you would be willing to travel or relocate. Have you been flexible enough? Are you prepared to travel a little for the right role? If so, make sure you have selected all the regions/counties (and even countries) you would consider. The type of role an employer is searching for will also factor, i.e. specialist roles that are niche. If you are a specialist, there may be fewer opportunities in the short term, but don’t be discouraged, fate is a wonderful thing; things happen.

It’s worth noting that employers are provided with the ability to weight the importance of all aspects of their search, i.e. they can select ‘not important’ through to ‘mandatory’ for any part of their search criteria, for example, if they require a candidate to be fluent in French (as a second language) and select ‘mandatory’, candidates who are not fluent will not be presented in the employers search results. The weighting feature is particularly useful for employers. For example, if the role requires a clean driving licence, with no exceptions, then the employer would select ‘mandatory’, meaning only candidates with a clean driving licence would be short-listed in their search. Overusing the weighting feature will drastically reduce the number of candidates shown, therefore employers are encouraged to use the default settings.

To enhance the likelihood of being matched, ensure that your profile is not only complete but is also periodically updated. This will dramatically increase your chances of being short-listed in a search. In terms of a guarantee, unfortunately, we do not provide any guarantee that you will be invited for an interview or receive a job offer. As you will appreciate, this is out of our control.

But remember, if you are invited to interview, go in the knowledge that you’re exactly what the company has searched for. So be confident and ace that interview!

Pay Related & Joining Fees:

What if a company offers me the job, but not the salary I indicated?

There will be times when a company may feel a candidate has 95% of what they are looking for so they make a conditional offer based on the candidate either gaining experience on the job or partaking in a training course.

A company may offer a staged salary increase, during which ‘a skill or experience’ is gained, which is reviewed after three months. This is a matter between the parties to agree, and to be honest, is a fair way to fill the gap in a candidate’s knowledge.

That said, all enquiring companies are made aware of our ethos of bettering people’s lives through financial well-being and will be reminded that there is nothing more demotivating then paying someone less than their true worth. We also reserve the right to exclude a company from our platform if they do not abide by our terms.

The other thing to remember is that you do not have to accept the role. Simply say thanks, but no thanks. Bear in mind, if the reason they offered lower than expected due to your current knowledge of, say, MS Excel, you could voluntarily address the gap they identified by partaking in an online Excel course. Either whilst you are working your notice or waiting to start. This way, you start on the salary you want.

Why is there a joining fee?

Along with flipping the traditional recruitment process upside down, we have also opted for a new, shared approach, spreading the cost of recruitment, where we each contribute a small amount. This is much fairer and supports a self-perpetuating model that works for everyone.

With low fixed fees, companies no longer need to be concerned about the percentage of salary transactions, meaning they are more likely to meet your salary objectives. Traditionally, companies pay out many thousands for finding candidates: fees they no longer need to pay, encouraging growth and recruitment.

There is another primary reason we charge a joining fee: to prevent large volumes of false accounts from being created by parties with an ulterior motive or agenda. This keeps our platform secure and your experience the best it can be.

I am part of a Union; can I get a joining fee discount?

The simple answer is yes.

We are in the process of setting up various affiliation schemes with ‘closed user groups’ such as unions. To expedite such a scheme with your union or other closed user groups, please ask them to reach out to us. Such a scheme can be set up in a matter of days. The union or group will then issue a discount code to members of the group, which can be used when they join or renew.

Why would I renew each year?

For the same reason you joined in the first place. If during the last 12 months our service has enabled you to land a key role, with an increase in your annual salary, wouldn’t it be wise to stick around?

With your secure profile set to ‘discoverable’, happy, or otherwise in your current role, you could potentially boost your income again with an offer from another employer who needs your experience or skill set. This could happen today, tomorrow or in 12 months’ time.

If you are not on Setyourworth.com how will an employer ‘dangle the carrot’?

But, if you would prefer not to stay, there is a ‘Delete My Account’ option in your profile settings. But beware, there is no undo!

Can I really get more holiday and better benefits?

In life, if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Benefits are no different from your salary expectations. They are part of a negotiation.

You are the perfect candidate. You have the right skills, experience, and attitude. Your personality traits complement the existing team and as a result, the company will be more productive and therefore profitable. A company is unlikely to let you slip through their fingers because you asked for an extra days holiday.

If you are lucky enough to have your wish granted, don’t be surprised if you are asked to sign an additional confidentiality agreement to ensure you do not disclose your employment package.

Do not be afraid too shy to ask, but don’t fall on your sword if they say no either!

Can I choose the hours I work and what if I want to work from home?

Yes. In fact, this is what makes Setyourworth.com so unique.

During the creation of your profile, you share your working preferences, which can be changed at any time. You might need certain working hours to ensure you can collect the children from school, you may want the flexibility to go in early or work late (flexitime).

Conversely, you might prefer to work from home rather than sit in traffic or catch a train each day. More and more companies are realising the financial benefits of homeworkers and flexible working hours; therefore, they will be prompted during their search to specify ‘working preferences’.

Can I demand any salary or hourly rate I want?

The key to achieving the salary you want is to be realistic.

With the gap in wages and cost of living so out of sync, the chances are you are already underpaid for the role you are doing. What we are trying to achieve is a salary or hourly rate that matches your knowledge, experience, and skill as it stands today. Not what the industry norm is.

Think about your self-worth and ask yourself what salary increase (based on your current skills and experience) you would like? What figure would help change your lifestyle and would give you some headroom to pay off your credit cards or help you save toward a future purchase?

Is the figure realistic? If so, then that becomes your target salary expectation. This is the figure you will use when creating your anonymous profile.

Personal Data & Security

Is my data secure?

As you would expect we encrypt any databases containing sensitive information. We use Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256) as used by governments and security organisations as well as everyday businesses for classified communications. AES uses “symmetric” key encryption. Someone on the receiving end of the data will need a key to decode it.

We have also adopted Stripe as our payment provider, who conform to PCI standards and ensure that your subscription payments are secure. We at Setyourworth.com never handle your payment data at any time during the transaction process. You can read more about Stripe’s PCI compliance here. https://stripe.com/gb/guides/pci-compliance.

Signup and login services are completed through a secure server and the information provided in the signup process is secured via HTTPS/ SSL communication.

We use cryptography hash functions to protect your information. Your password is stored as a hash digest and, in the event of a security breach, your original password cannot be recovered from our servers.

We hope this demonstrates our commitment to data security.

Can my profile be seen by everyone?

The profile created on our secure site is YOURS and yours alone. Without permission from you, no one will be able to identify you, contact you, or see any private information. When an enquiring company searches, the results list indicates candidate A, B, C, etc.

Additionally, member’s profiles do not include the names of companies they’ve worked at or are now working for, so there is no joining the dots either. You are completely anonymous.

How do I change the details on my account?

To create a profile page, you create an account with a username and password. Each time you want to change or update your profile, perhaps with some new training you’ve taken part in or a milestone you’ve completed, you simply click on the Log In link on the homepage and enter your details.

The system will send you a text message with a short code, this is part of our two-stage authentication process to make sure it’s your login. The security of your data is our paramount priority.

Remember, we will never send you an email with a link to log-on to your profile, nor would we promote a login via any social media platform, like Facebook, or similar.

Our staff will never ask for your password. Always be vigilant of fraudsters. Always keep your computer security up to date.

If I change my mind and decide not to renew next year what happens to my profile?

As you would expect, we delete it. Completely. Better still, you do it. Within your profile area, there is the option to delete your profile. But beware, once it’s gone, it’s gone.

The only records we keep are the ones that would be required under the law. All data is treated in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

Please see our easy to read Privacy Policy.

Can my existing employer see my profile?

Certainly not. Our service is underpinned by anonymity and absolute privacy control.

Companies who find a person of interest on our site are given a shortlist of profiles that meet their specific chosen criteria, all of which, show no personal data at all.

Company Related

Why would companies use this method of recruitment?

Finding a perfect hire in minutes saves companies time and money.

Recruitment is time-consuming, costly, and very distracting. Coupled with poor recruitment experience and man-management, some companies are constantly recruiting.

Our approach gives employers access to the whole market, so to speak, rather than just those looking in the traditional sense. Access to everyone means access to skill sets and experience that might not ordinarily be available at a given point in time.

How does this benefit a business?

Unlike traditional recruitment, which is very time consuming and often hit-and-miss, businesses using Setyourworth.com can quickly and easily find talent that matches their business needs perfectly.

Not just in terms of a person’s skill or experience, but whether they are a good fit for an existing team.

Finding people, the Setyourworth.com way saves time, saves money, and ensures the business can get on with their day to day operations. Too many companies have fallen into a permanent recruitment cycle, with managers no longer managing; instead, they spend a disproportionate amount of their week recruiting or planning to recruit.

My boss said, 'You're lucky to even have a job!'

With tens of millions of workers affected by Covid-19, unemployment has increased dramatically. It may get worse before it gets better. However, before you start to loathe your boss, take a moment, and think about what they might have been through during the Covid crisis.

Managers, stakeholders, directors and individual business owners have been through hell and back, and it is no wonder that we might hear the phrase ‘you should think yourself lucky to even have a job’ from time to time. Is it right? No, of course not, but let us first understand the source of that emotion…survival.

With a degree of uncertainty ahead, why not be part of the solution?

At Setyourworth.com, we are advocates in self-help, being responsible and stepping up. Be a team player, sit down with your line manager and ask how you can help with the company’s recovery.

Covid-19 - Workers before Shareholders

Economists may argue that companies should put workers before shareholders. A ‘workers first’ strategy that provides an enhanced level of financial well-being for its staff would mean they are likely to spend, stimulating the economy.

As with anything, there is a balance, shareholders’ interests versus staff, yet without its staff, what value does a business have?

As companies adopt a ‘we’re all in this together’ culture, well-managed teams and key staff members will go the extra mile.

Some may also argue that pay increases are the key to economic recovery. If staff are spending, a company’s customers are spending, meaning order books are increasing too.

Students & Young People

I'm still in full-time education, does this cater for me?

Most definitely. Young people are critical to many industries' longevity, where an ageing workforce could see many businesses struggle to exist in the future. You should not be paid unfairly for the role and hours you are working, just because of your age.

As pioneers in this employment revolution, we are looking to enrol teenagers (with parental consent and engagement) in phase two of a much bigger objective that helps young people obtain employment when they leave education.

Are you a teenager? Are you a parent concerned with how Covid has affected your child’s education and future employability? If so, please get in touch by emailing us at info@setyourworth.com (Please include ‘young person’ in the subject line)

I am a young person; can I earn more than the minimum wage?

We do not believe in a blanket policy of paying young people the minimum wage.

We all bring something different to the table, no matter our age.

At Setyourworth.com, employers are engaging with you on the basis that your profile matched the criteria they searched for. A perfect candidate. To learn more about you they will need to accept your salary expectation.

Provided the amount you have requested is reasonable and proportionate, and you can do the job, it’s a win-win for both sides.

Apprenticeships & employing young people

We love a good quote, especially this one: “Age is foolish and forgetful when it underestimates youth.” – J. K. Rowling.

Companies looking to recruit young people already recognise this very apt quote. Historically, young people are often seen as just another pair of hands who must work their way up the ladder. However, as with anything, we are all different, no matter the age.

A young person may lack experience; however, this is often substituted with drive, enthusiasm, and a desire to succeed: a blank canvas to work with.

Now factor in their education and exam results, their interests, determination, and ongoing passion to better themselves.

Are they still taking part in further education? Night school? An Open University course? Perhaps they are partaking in online courses to hone their software skills even further?

At Setyourworth.com, we believe that drive and ambition should be recognised and rewarded. However, for those young people who may have lost their way at school or struggled, we urge companies not to write them off, judge or discount them. Not everyone is an academic, nor should we expect them to be. Some of the most famous self-made millionaires and billionaires did not do well at school. What matters is now…what does this young person bring to the table today?

A young person’s remuneration should reflect the role and responsibility, not their age.

Objectives & social responsibility

What are the objectives of Setyourworth.com?

We have several key objectives that we are working hard to achieve; these are:

  1. To address all forms of discrimination and inequality in the recruitment process.

  2. To address the pay gap between current pay levels and the cost of living, to ensure people are paid a salary that reflects their true worth, not what has become the low norm.

  3. To help people achieve financial well-being, decreasing stress and enhancing their mental health.

  4. To provide young people with a vision and clarity of their futures, coupled with a fair level of pay, beyond the minimum wage.

  5. To support struggling charities with no less than 15% of our profits.

What charities do you donate to?

In tough times humans often do the most amazing things to help others. It is utterly heart-warming when so many people, who have so little, give so generously. With financial hardship, one key factor contributing to acute stress and poor mental health, you will not be surprised to learn that we are seeking a mental health charity to commit to.

If that’s you, please get in touch. Meanwhile, we’ll continue our search.

We would also like to work with charities delivering aid and support to those affected by life’s challenges. Again, please get in touch if that’s you.

Our ultimate aim is to set up a Foundation that will continue to do the good work we intended at inception, but for many decades to come.

I'm struggling with my mental health; can you help me?

Many work-related factors affect our mental wellbeing, these include;

  • Poor man-management, a boss or line manager who dumps rather than delegates, who expects unachievable goals to be reached and blames you for their failure.

  • Poor working conditions with senior management that treat you as a commodity they can easily replace.

  • Poor levels of pay, meaning your home life is continually sub-standard: You may be renting or living with your family in a single room.

  • Due to the lack of pay, you are in debt, and creditors are putting you under more and more pressure.

  • Recent redundancy and resulting uncertainty of how you will survive.

  • The list goes on...

The fix to many, if not all the above, is a job where you are paid your true worth.

Our mission is to ensure we re-align pay and salaries with the cost of living. We all deserve to have dreams, ambitions, and aspirations.

I am a young woman from a BAME background, will I have the same opportunity as others?

Yes. Definitely.

Young, old, male, female, LGBT+ or otherwise….it does not and should not matter.

This is part of the reason we have created our platform the way we have. Regardless of the colour of your skin, your culture, beliefs, or ethnicity, our unique, anonymous service only provides to the enquiring employer the experience, skills and preferences they are seeking, along with your salary expectations. Not your name, your age or gender etc. (not exhaustive).

What matters is what you bring to the table. If you can do the job as well as, if not better than someone else, that is what matters. Gone are the days of employers profiling CVs and resumes.

Provided your profile accurately conveys your experience and skills, there is absolutely no reason why you would not have the same opportunities as the next person.

In fact, our search criteria are so flexible and targeted; it may well be you are the only perfect match.
